About you
Tweag works with organizations at all experience levels, from trying out Bazel for the first time, to refactoring and scaling Bazel workspaces with hundreds of thousands of potential targets. In every situation, we are the experts, helping them achieve their goals and delighting them with improvements they never expected.
We are looking for someone who can handle:
- Integration with as-yet-unsupported languages.
- Development of specialized Bazel toolchains.
- Improving open-source Bazel rules to unblock our clients.
- Using Gazelle to standardize and clean up code.
- Refactoring Bazel code, and teaching others how to do so.
- Debugging the internals of Bazel.
In addition, we'd appreciate
- Ties to the Bazel community.
- Active maintenance of Bazel open-source tools.
- Expertise in Bazel performance optimization, both within rules and in evaluating the build graph.
- Knowledge of other reproducible build systems, such as Nix, Buck2, or Pants.

Senior Nix Engineer

Tweag by Modus Create are looking for a Nix engineer to join our team. Tweag is a software consultancy that helps engineering organizations overcome technical bottlenecks that stand in the way of success. Our work in reproducible infrastructure and dependency management, primarily through Nix, helps our clients scale their operations without the fractal complexity that comes with classic, non-deterministic approaches.
About you
Tweag's clients already have some experience with Nix, and have often produced large-scale, working systems. They come to us to level up their codebase: to improve their performance, reduce their maintenance costs, and learn from experts.
We are looking for someone who can check most of the following boxes:
- Deep understanding of Nix's internals.
- Significant open-source contributions to Nix, nixpkgs, or other well-recognised tools.
- An understanding of how to structure and manage an evolving Nix codebase.
- The ability to refactor Nix code, and teach others how to do so.
- Skill in integrating NixOS or Nix-based packages into a wider system, managed with infrastructure-as-code tooling such as Kubernetes or Terraform/OpenTofu.
In addition, we'd appreciate
- Ties to the Nix community.
- Experience with alternative Nix toolchains such as Lix or Snix.
- Active maintenance of Nix open-source tools.
- Expertise in Nix performance optimization, including but not limited to long evaluation times.
